Spamlet, shortly after his arrival
Spamlet came when his people moved to the Carolinas. He was quite overweight and unable to hear or see. At his first home he got around well because he'd grown up there and had run of the property. Our house was an adjustment for him and he often bumped into fences and doorways. He's lost a significant amount of weight and over time his vision and hearing have improved, but he's far from normal. He'll still bump into things and sometimes has to be awakened for a meal, despite the uproar going on around him. Spammy is very affectionate and always seeks out a friendly scratch. Only once did he display a temper and want to bite. I was reaching for something and didn't know he was behind me. My foot came up and gave him a solid clop to the chops. I tried to apologize, but it was too late and he came after me as only Spamlet can. Despite his lost vision and hearing, he's able to stalk very well. I beat a hasty retreat out of the barn, around a corner, yet he kept coming, wanting to bite. It was at a walk, but he was persistent and determined to pay me back, chomping and foaming as he came. All I needed was the "Jaws" theme music in the background. I gave up the project for the day and had been forgiven by the next.
