Lucy joined us November 20, 2003 when she was about three years old. She was given up by her people because she had no tolerance for their toddler...a very normal reaction on a pig's part. Generally small children and pet pigs are not a great combination unless well supervised. A pig can inflict serious bites and most potbellies are less tolerant of children than a dog might be, especially if the child is rough with the pig. Small children may grab, poke, pull and unknowingly torment a pig until it simply reacts as it would with another pig, by biting.
Lucy is actually, as a rule, very gentle and has never given us any problem when children visit, though she's always watched closely. She used live alone because she's was very aggressive with other pigs. Then Piggles spent a winter living next to her and they formed a bond so Lucy was not a loner.
Sadly, Lucy was lost to cancer on April 30, 2013. She had many good years with us and will be sadly missed.
