Hannah Blue and Tooey arrived as emaciated, weak young pigs. Starving, they even tried to eat the pine shavings in their stall. They were purchased from a Kentucky breeder who, like so many other money grubbing breeders, told their new owner to feed them only 1/4 cup of feed a day and they'd never grow over 35 pounds. Their owner said she didn't feel it was enough so she upped it a "little bit". They were still weak and emaciated upon arrival.
After several months on a proper and adequate diet, Hannah and Tooey are at excellent weights, active and enjoying their days outdoors doing what pigs should do. Their prognosis is much better, though the early starvation may have caused as yet unknown damage that may shorten their lives.
Initially all these two wanted to do was sleep. They would get up, eat, and immediately return to bed. Hannah dragged her hind legs and would easily tip over. Although she still has very poor conformation behind, she is active and can run as fast as Tooey. They spend their days wandering and grazing and enjoying life. They both weigh over 50 pounds now and Tooey is only 4" below my knee. Hannah is still smaller but has grown considerably now that she is on a healthy diet.
Here is a link to a video, showing their first year at Camp Skipping Pig.
