Gizmo arrived in January of 2003, a sweet but somewhat shy fellow. He was a bit nervous about having the top of his head touched and didn't like handling too near his face, but has come a long way over the years. I'm still cautious when looking at his tusks, though it's been a long time since he snapped at me for being a bit "too familiar". Gizmo was about 18 months old when he came. His story was that he'd been found in a box on a porch, too sick to rise and was taken in by a woman in an apartment. She nursed him but couldn't keep him so she gave him to another woman who lived on a farm and had 4-H market pigs. When the second woman's husband discovered him she was given until Monday to "get rid of it", and I got the call to take him. I was told he was healthy and neutered but he was neither. Gizmo had open sores from mange (which he shared with the woman's dogs). He was thin and needed to be neutered. His mange took five treatments to cure, but once healthy he became a beautiful sweet boy who loves his belly rubs and often rubs the hair off Snurdle when he decides she needs one. He'll pick a spot and root on her until the hair is worn off. She lays there giving happy grunts as he almost goes into a trance. Not sure what that's all about, but they're both happy! That's what counts!
